This fall the VDBL will be holding its annual basketball tryouts. Over the past three years this league has become the most popular youth boys basketball league in the greater Charlottesville area with boys in grades 5 - 8 from all public and private schools in the greater Charlottesville-Albemarle area (including teams from Greene County to Fluvanna) trying out each September. Due to limited facility availability, VABA has been able to take only 10 kids per age-group for each team - and, while this has produced some of the highest quality basketball talent competing weekly under VABA-trained coaches, it has also meant that not all those attempting to make the team have been able to partake in a VABA league.
Unfortunately, this has meant that VABA has had to turn away some very talented, hard-working, aspiring athletes with big dreams of developing their skills. VABA's goal is to meet the needs of our community when it comes to quality basketball instruction. Therefore, due to a high volume of requests, VABA will be including its Silver League as part of the VDBL. This means that those individuals who do not make a VDBL roster, will be able to participate in the VDBL-Silver league. Since the popularity of the VDBL has increased each season, many excellent players have missed out - but never again! All those who tryout for a VDBL team will make a roster either with the VDBL or the Silver League.
