SILVER LEAGUE (GRADES 5-8)

The VDBL-Silver is made up of boys, grades 5 - 8, who want to take part in the VDBL league and attend at least one fall tryout/evaluation, but are not placed on a VDBL-Gold roster.  Because so many individuals attend tryouts/evaluations in September each year, and it is VABA's Mission to serve all those interested in taking part in our character and skill development program, the Silver League is a league that provides this opportunity for the same high quality instruction along with all the other offerings of the VDBL.  Silver League and Gold League teams do not play each other.

TRYOUT FORMAT
During the fall tryouts (early to mid-September), all those in attendance are evaluated.  The first ten selected for each grade level and for each team make the initial VDBL-Gold roster.  Those who do not make the initial 10-man roster are placed on the VDBL-Silver roster (VDBL) with the goal of further developing skill level and experience.  These teams are often made up of very solid athletes who need additional court time (practice and game time) and have a passion for the game of basketball.  Like VDBL-Gold teams, VDBL-Silver teams will compete against other teams from other schools when the season begins.
WHY CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SILVER LEAGUE?
Parents would choose this program because the quality of the program is consistent with all VABA programs AND its Mission is consistent with VABA's Mission to build character and change lives through the game of basketball.

From the uniforms to the facilities to the coaching, the Silver League is the same program as the VDBL-Gold.  The Silver League is a program that provides an opportunity to those individuals who may need more experience and quality teaching in order to reach their basketball goals and maximize their full potential.  It is also a ton of fun to wear your school mascot and colors as you compete against other schools!  Oftentimes, athletes bloom late, or discover the game of basketball at a later stage in their overall development.  If this is the case, the Silver League could provide the exact ingredients necessary to best develop those skills and attitudes required for development.  All VDBL-Silver coaches attend the Coaches Training Sessions and are required to meet the same expectations of the VDBL-Gold league.

More Silver League details...

Participants who do not evaluate onto a Gold roster are placed on a Silver roster.  In the VDBL-Silver, the practice schedule is basically the same (2x/week, 25+ total practices) and the games are scheduled similarly as well (Sunday afternoons, 10-12+ games).  Pricing is the same.  Gold and Silver teams do not play against each other.  All players receive reversible mesh jerseys and shorts as well.
