Biography

Ernest Chambers, Sr. is a native of Halifax County, VA. and now resides in Charlottesville, Va. He is a 1992 graduate of Shenandoah University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Education. While at Shenandoah, he received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award created in 1930 to honor graduates who show remarkable character and integrity, and who demonstrate a commitment to service to others. A 4 year letterman on the Men’s Basketball team, Ernest was inducted into the 2010 Shenandoah University Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1988-89 Men’s Basketball team -  the first sports team in school history to make it into the NCAA Tournament. Currently in his 24th year of teaching, he has taught in the Winchester City, Louisa County and City of Charlottesville Public Schools where he is presently teaching at Burnley-Moran Elementary School. He is a 2011 CNE Board Development Academy graduate and former Board Chair of the African-American Teaching Fellows of Albemarle Co./Charlottesville City. And now sits on the board of the Central Va. Pickleball Club. In Winchester, Va. he coached girls and boys middle school basketball and JV Basketball at John Handley High School.  In Louisa County, Va. he coached middle school and J. V. Boys basketball, J. V. and Varsity Softball and Golf. While with City of Charlottesville Public Schools, Ernest has been a volunteer assistant with the golf team.  Ernest has been involved with VABA as either a coach, official, camp coach or supervisor since 2006. He has enjoyed watching the development of young student-athletes in our community from the time they start playing in the JBL to playing on the high school and collegiate level. Ernest is an ordained minister and has been married to Rev. Christina C. Chambers for 23 years. He is the father of 20 year old Scottie,  a VABA alum and present camp counselor, and 12 year old Jordan who has also participated in the JBL.
