URGENT!!  SCHEDULE UPDATE!: Rain forecasted for tonight

Bruins (AAU) Spring Team Tryouts MOVED TO SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27!

  • We apologize for the inconvenience

-->Please click here to complete Online COVID Waiver/Affidavit prior to check-in (@ 5:15 pm)

Dear << Test Last Name >> Family:

We apologize, but despite all the planning (and updates), there is one thing we cannot control: THE WEATHER!  It appears we can land a robot on Mars with pinpoint precision, but even the experts cannot accurately predict the weather 24 hours in advance!  (please laugh - that was funny)

So, VABA continues to try and take "pivoting" (a very valuable basketball skill) to another level.  Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

Based on the most recent Weather.com predictions (see below), it appears the rain will be rolling in this evening, and then subside tomorrow morning.  So, we will plan on having our Bruins AAU Tryouts Saturday evening.

The good news - it should be much warmer than expected and dry by 5:00 pm.  All details remain the same (see below!).

WHAT TO WEAR: Thermal/Warm Gear + Jersey (OVER TOP!)
It's very important that each participant WEAR A NUMBERED (#) BASKETBALL JERSEY TO THE TRYOUT (PREFERABLY, IF YOU HAVE ONE, YOUR PRESENT 2020-21 JERSEY).  If you do not have a 2020-21 jersey, please wear a jersey from any past or present team (preferably VABA).  This will assist our staff in identifying individual players.

Click HERE TO LEARN MORE about VABA's Bruins Programs!  This link should answer many  potential questions you may have.  Many of your questions will also be answered in our Parent Info Meeting on Sunday, held BEFORE this tryout.

VABA's aim is to meet your families expectations regarding basketball, character, and COVID safety.  VABA's "outdoor + masked" provisions are the baseline for all Bruins Spring Basketball participants.

THIS IS AN OPEN TRYOUT.   We're looking for PLAYERS INTERESTED IN PLAYING ON A COMPETITIVE, SPRING-TEAM.  These teams conduct weekly training sessions and/or formal practices and may or may not participate in outside tournaments.   THERE WILL BE OUTDOOR, MASKED LOCAL TOURNAMENTS HELD BT VABA TO FACILITATE TEAMS SCHEDULES.

VABA Bruins does not require weekend commitments.  Coaches organize practices/games around spring schedules and do not require families to choose between athletic commitments.   VABA believes in youth and families achieving balance in their schedules.  Because basketball is a "skill sport," engaging in some form of training helps bridge the gap between seasons.   VABA's mission of "building character and shaping lives" remains consistent throughout.

Attending the tryout is not a commitment.  There will be cuts.  There will also be a short parent informational meeting BEFORE the tryout.  Please read the flyer carefully.

If you are interested in COACHING Bruins this spring/summer, please email Ben D'Alessanddro at Ben@PlayVABA.org.

This is a tryout for boys & girls, Grades 3-12.  We look forward to seeing you there!
