Dear VABA FAMILIES:

VABA received word around 6:00 pm this (FRIDAY) evening that all County Schools were going to be close on Saturday, February 17 (due to inclement weather forecast). 

Given the forecast (which we had already reviewed), we were surprised to hear this - not to mention quite upset and disappointed.  Our staff had worked hard to put on an AMAZING SATURDAY OF HOOPS FOR OUR AMAZING KIDS AND FAMILIES!   Despite VABA's pleadings with the messenger, we were unable to reach "the county's" leadership to change their minds OR negotiate a compromise.  

So, our VABA Team swung into action trying to secure non-County sites and move games to those sites.  We tried The Covenant School, Tandem Friends, Boys & Girls Clubs, Charlottesville HS....just to name a few.  We exhausted every possible option - with little success.   Each of these sites either had other events and/or could not staff or open on short notice and/or decided to remain consistent with the County decision due to weather.  

FORTUNATELY, we were able to secure ONE (1) non-County site (@ UVA North Grounds).  

Because the REC Leagues are scheduled to have their Championship Tournaments (and, they had had a game cancelled earlier in the season, and VABA would be unable to reschedule their tournament for next weekend), with limited options for the JBL, VABA had to prioritize the REC League so they can complete their Championship Tournaments and finish out their season.

For these reasons, please read the updates listed below regarding games this weekend:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17

(1) ALL LAKESIDE GAMES (REC 9-12) are moved to --> UVA North Grounds.  

• Doors open at 8:00 am. 
• Game 1 will begin at 8:20 am. 
• We hope to catch up with the regularly-schedule games from 9:00 am on!  
• Directions to North Grounds

(2) ALL JOURNEY GAMES (REC 5-8) are moved to --> Peabody School.

• Doors open at 7:00 am.
• Game 1 begins at 8:00 am.
• Directions to  Peabody School
   

(3) ALL PEABODY GAMES (JBL-GIRLS 1-2 & 3-4) are CANCELLED. 

• Games cannot and will not be made up
   

(4) ALL BROWNSVILLE/HENLEY GAMES (JBL-Boys 1/2 South & JBL-Boys 4th grade) are CANCELLED.

• Games cannot and will not be made up
   

(5) ALL WOODBROOK GAMES (JBL-Boys 1/2 North & JBL-Boys 3rd grade) are CANCELLED.

• Games cannot and will not be made up
   

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18

(6) ALL SUNDAY (VDBL),  February 18 - GAMES ARE ON AS SCHEDULED.  

• Western Albemarle HS games are ON 
• Monticello HS games are ON
