Newly updated 2020 Summer Camp (COVID-19) Schedule!

Since the onset of COVID-19,
VABA has finalized an amended 2020 Summer Camp schedule!  We have virtual-interactive offerings,
neighborhood small group workouts, outdoor and indoor facilities reserved, and contingency plans in place regarding transition between state reopening Phases - all in consideration with state guidelines - with the utmost consideration and precautions made for safe, healthy, fun & productive basketball instruction! All deposits and payments are 100% refundable (refer to refund policy for details).
SEE NEW 2020 VABA SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM OPTIONS BELOW!

Our VABA Team is sensitive to the challenges each family may be facing in this time, and we are excited about the creative and innovative steps we have made to make it possible for a fun, safe and healthy summer camp basketball season for all!

Weeks #3-8 (Phase III Protocol)

During this period, VABA is anticipating being in Phase II or Phase III.

If in Phase III, the VABA Team would consider combining "mini-camp" sessions in order to form "full camps."  COVID-19 protocols would be adjusted for the appropriate Phase.

(SEE VABA COVID-19 PROTOCOLS BELOW).

ADJUSTED REFUND POLICY
During these uncertain times, VABA is observing an adjusted refund policy.  All deposits and payments are 100% refundable.  In the event that a program does not occur  and/or if a registrant's family decides, due to health concerns, that they are not comfortable, registrants may receive a 100% refund.  A member of The VABA Team will communicate with families by 12:00 pm on Friday to confirm the details of the up-coming week of camp.   Refunds must be requested by 12:00 pm, the Saturday BEFORE camp begins.  After this day & time, no refunds of any kind will be granted for any reason.  For Phase II (outdoor camps), please see rain and postponement policy on Camp Info webpage (under "Phase II").

Sharpen scoring skills!

Proper shooting technique and developing good shooting habits are critical to developing the all-around player.  Unfortunately, most players have numerous imperfections with their shot – and, oftentimes, these bad habits go uncorrected, and it becomes increasingly more difficult to significantly improve your shot.  If you can shoot the ball well, it provides multiple other opportunities to expand your game, and coaches are always looking for good shooters.  Conversely, if you are an inconsistent or poor shooter, you become more limited as defenders will be able to key in on this weakness.  The Shooting & Scoring Mini-camp addresses proper shooting techniques as well as drills to take home and work on, on your own, so you can redefine your shot and reinvent your game.  Proper footwork, and important offensive “reads” will be taught and added to your new jumper, as additional scoring moves develop, taking your game to the next level!

COVID-Specific Description (VA Phase II):
In the event that Virginia is in Phase II of the "Reopening" state protocol, this program may be divided into two (2) three-hour sessions.  All instructional components are easily transferrable to individual skill development and maintaining physical distancing (if necessary - i.e. in Phase II).

Position-specific training!

Understanding how your game, and whatever position or role you are designated to fulfill, is critical toward success on the court.  In particular, a point guard, a wing and a post-player should each have similar mindsets in certain areas, but also think a certain way, more specific to their position.  The Specialty  Position Mini-camp will address the following for each position: POINT GUARD (ball-handling, passing, timing, running your team, leadership, pick & roll offense, pressuring & containing the ball, moves & counter moves, etc.), WING (playing off the ball, using screens, running your lane, attacking from the wing, moves & counter-moves, defending the wing, etc.), POST-PLAYER (passing, low-post moves, running the floor, positioning/sealing in the post, back-to-the basket, long-post face-up game, finishing).

3v3, 4v4, 5v5 drills/games!

One of the most difficult things to do is to teach players how to “see the game.”  Many players look, but very few “see” the game.  Second to developing fundamentals, a basketball players must understand “how to play.”  The Team Skills Mini-camp is designed to connect the individual fundamentals and piece them together systematically (2-on-2, 3-on-3, 4-on-4 & 5-on-5) in order to develop a player who is better able to “see the game” and play, most effectively, in a game-setting.

COVID-Specific Description (VA Phase II):
In the event that Virginia is in Phase II of the "Reopening" state protocol, this program will be cancelled.  If you register for the entire "Three Mini-Camp Package" (Shooting, Position & Team Skills), you will received a 100% refund for this program only.
