Biography

Travis Watson, originally from Texas, began his basketball journey at W.T. White High School before moving to Brookneal, Virginia, at age 15 to pursue his passion for the game. In the summer of 1996, he played AAU basketball for the first time. After a year at William Campbell High School, he transferred to the prestigious Oak Hill Academy in 1997. During his two years at Oak Hill, Travis achieved significant individual and team milestones.

In 1998, he was selected for the USA Team Select at the World Youth Games, leading his team to a gold medal. As a senior, he guided Oak Hill to the 1999 National Championship and earned accolades as a Parade All-American, Nike Hoop Summit selection, and the title of Mr. Virginia Basketball.

In 1999, Travis committed to the University of Virginia, recruited by Pete Gillen as part of a top national recruiting class that included Roger Mason and Majestic Mapp. During his four years at UVA, Travis was a consistent starter, leading the ACC in rebounding twice and finishing second in career rebounds behind Ralph Sampson. He set a school record with 381 offensive rebounds, scored over 1,500 points, and was a three-time All-ACC selection. His remarkable career earned him the ACC Living Legend Award in 2013.

After graduating in 2003, Travis embarked on a 15-year professional career in Europe, playing in top leagues across Greece, Italy, Israel, Lithuania, Romania, and Switzerland. Known for his rebounding prowess, he led the EuroLeague in rebounding twice and won multiple championships and MVP awards in various leagues.

Following retirement, Travis transitioned to coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the Montreat College women's basketball team and head coach at the American School of Milan, leading his team to back-to-back NISSA Championships. Today, Travis is dedicated to player development, mentoring, and guiding the next generation of basketball talent.
